Fulton wins District opener in dramatic fashion over Northview 6-5 in 8 innings.
3/24/25 Christenberry Park
After a successful Florida trip and a perfect 10-0 record, the Falcons got into district play against the defending District 3A Champion Northview Cougars (1-11, 0-3).
Fulton pitcher Maddox Myers retired the first two batters of the game on 4 pitches. Then Cougar, Jacob Smith hit a single to center on the 5th pitch of the inning followed by a hit by pitch to put runners on 1st and second. An error by second baseman Logan Massengill allowed the run to cross the plate to make it 1-0 Cougars. A passed ball moved runners to 2nd and 3rd, but Myers induced a groundout to end the inning.
As to be expected, the Falcons quickly got to work in the bottom of the first with a single by Brock Burton followed by back to back hit batters to load the bases with no outs. Myers lined out to right and the right fielder tried to double off Garcia at first, but threw it over the first base dugout. All runners advanced 2 bases, and the Falcons led 2-1. Trey Salyer lined out to the pitcher who then doubled off Garcia at third to end the inning.
In the bottom of the second, the Falcons added 3 more runs as they loaded the bases again starting with singles by Massengill and Quezz Brown, followed by an error on a bunt to load
the bases. Burton hit into a fielders choice with Massengill being forced out at home. Lyons hit into a fielders choice scoring a run and forcing Hicks out at 3rd. Garcia doubled down the right field line scoring Burton and Lyons to put the Falcons up 5-1 after 2.
The Cougars roared back in the top of the third, scoring 3 runs aided by two costly Falcon errors. Nick Hickman settled in in the 4th, 5th, & 6th innings and shut the Falcon offense down striking out 7 of the next 11 Falcon hitters. A one out single by Drake George for Northview in the top of the sixth got things going for the Cougars. After a flyout, Smith was hit by a pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd
with 2 outs. Hickman singles to right scoring George to tie the game at 5. After a scoreless 6th and 7th for both teams, The cougars threatened with runners on 1st and 3rd with one out. Robert Ethington came on to pitch for Fulton and induced a pop out and a fly out to end the threat.
Salyer led off the bottom of the 8th getting hit by a pitch, followed by a fielders choice that didn't record an out and a walk to load the bases with no outs. Hicks and Burton struck out and the stage was set for Noah Lyons. Lyons promptly hit the first pitch he saw to right for a base hit to score Salyer for the walk off win.
